Remember how I just decided one day to like move to a foreign country? What a dumb idea. I'm not saying "I hate it here" but I do kind of regret deciding to be gone so long. I already miss basic things and I have been here a week. HA. Don't get me wrong, I love it here (and I mean that). It is so pretty, the weather is perfect, and I am totally obsessed with the food. I really do love it here, but I don't know if I love it enough to want to be here 4 months. 2 months? yeah totally. 4 months? a little more skeptical. With that being said, things are getting easier. Teaching is getting easier, looking cooler on instagram is getting easier, and loving the kids is getting easier. Things that are getting harder? My cravings for taco bell, seeing my friends doing super cool stuff, and I really miss feeling pretty(totally basic white girl but I felt it needed to be said). So emotionally, that's my update. I love when people from home text, facetime, or snapchat me SO PLEASE COMMUNICATE WITH ME. Also my hungering for cheezits as reached an all time high.
This week I taught all of the kids super cool things like how to grocery shop, go on a fake safari, and the entire story of Cinderella. They are so cute, but also shit heads so I find myself being very confused most of the time. I had already taught my safari lesson when I had about 5 minutes left of class. I decided to show them pictures of me riding elephants and monkeys attacking me in Bali. One of the cute little girls named Panis turns to me and says, "oh my God, they were attacking you because you are so beautiful." So she is currently my second favorite behind Lily(the melodramatic teenager). Lily is by far my favorite human to grace this planet. She is so hilarious. Literally she is the most cynical, depressing, and hilarious 5 year old I have ever met. She talks to me about how her mom is lame and always working, or about the tea party her mom forced upon her only to be too busy to attend, and even about how she is hoping one day she can move to the Netherlands. She is all spunk, and no fun and I think that's why I love her. I don't like my Pre K class at all, except Marine who has these perfect chubby cheeks, and a the best crab impersonation this town has ever seen. Teaching will get easier I am guessing...it has to right?
The other day while riding our bikes we ran into a man who is an organic chicken farmer who lives on our street. He asked us to come over and see his farm sometime and assured us that his daughter speaks better English than him. We decided to go on Saturday and it was so cool. His entire yard is this amazing garden with fresh vegetables and fruit everywhere. He has bananas, papayas, starfruit, jack fruit, limes, squash, berries, and some other stuff they don't have names for in English. He was so kind and showed us all of his chickens, prepared fruit for us, and we ended up being there for at least an hour and a half. His daughter spoke perfect English and even lived in Utah for 3 months(small world). They invited us to the market with them the next morning, and boy was that an experience. They sell like fresh eel, like in a bag, like how we would buy a goldfish, but they eat it. Also we got these amazing crepe things but they were like warm small tortillas smothered in sweetened condensed milk, they were TO DIE FOR. The family was so nice and they insisted that they buy us everything. The dad showed up with his fanny pack, and classic dad sunglasses handing us a bunch of bananas out of nowhere. It was really cool to go out on the town with some locals and speak English for just a second. Literally no one in Thailand speaks English. NO ONE. Ordering food is exhausting because I can't read, or speak, and they don't know what I am saying so I have to bring out my google translate every 5 seconds but it's cool.
Things I learned this week
1. Dads are the same everywhere, just geeky and nerdy.
2. Frappucinos are overpriced and gross at Starbucks, I would much rather prefer the $0.57 one the lady on the side of the road sells me
3. I don't want kids, like for A LONG TIME
4. I tan better on this half of the world
5. I've really taken everything being in English for granted my entire life.
Next weekend I am going to Chiang Mai which is really touristy beautiful town. I am so excited for that, hopefully it makes teaching a little easier. You should be excited too because I will be staying in a hostel, taking a bus 5 hours, and riding an elephant...something is bound to go wrong. Love ya'll. I will be updating this every Sunday or Monday now, so you'll have some consistency.
Book update: I have written 2 more essays. Holla Atcha Girl
